Hodaya Yeshayahu is an Israeli painter, illustrator, poet, and musician. She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts and Philosophy from the University of Haifa. Her visual language weaves expressive abstraction with poetic nuance, often exploring themes of inner longing, prayer, and the sacred feminine.
She resides in the enchanting city of Safed (Tzfat), whose spiritual atmosphere and centuries-old artistic heritage continue to inspire her creative soul.
As a mother of IDF soldiers, her connection to the Psalms is not only artistic — it is vital and lived, like breath to the soul.
In both word and image, Hodaya creates from a place of sincerity and depth, inviting viewers to pause, feel, and remember what is eternal.
Artist Statement | Hodaya Yeshayahu
My work emerges from an inner listening — a sensitivity to the subtle movements of the soul, spirit, and society. I move freely between abstraction and figuration, between expressive brushstrokes and emotionally charged human gestures.
Through contrasts of color, layered textures, and painterly intuition, I seek to capture moments of truth — a gaze, stillness, prayer, an embrace — and give them tangible presence on the canvas.
My perspective is rooted in a deep Jewish identity and shaped by the evolving Israeli experience. Within this unfolding reality, the experience of being a mother to soldiers has become an integral source of inspiration — a wellspring of longing and prayer for their safety and for the safety of all our beloved soldiers.
The ancient city of Tzfat, with its layers of mystery and meaning, remains a vital source of inspiration. Its name, rooted in the Hebrew word for “looking out” or “gazing,” evokes both far-sighted vision and inward reflection — much like the act of painting itself, which invites the viewer into a new emotional landscape.
I believe that an image on the canvas can awaken an image within the soul — opening an inner gaze, offering healing and quiet strength, for those who truly surrender to the act of seeing.
For me, painting is a space of becoming — intuitive, searching, and striving to give form to what perhaps cannot be expressed in words.
